Review by Donna Susor

Canned Heat's album Help Me Big Road Blues is a solid effort that showcases the band's bluesy sound and impressive musicianship. The album features a mix of original compositions and covers of classic blues tracks, all of which are performed with energy and passion.

The standout track on the album is undoubtedly the title track, "Help Me," which features some blistering guitar work from Henry Vestine and a powerful vocal performance from Bob Hite. Other highlights include the rollicking "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and the moody "My Time Ain't Long."

Sonny Boy Williamson recorded “Help Me” in 1963, and it bears a striking similarity to the instrumental “Green Onions," from Booker T and the MGs one year earlier.

I love playing guitar to this song. I play booker t green onions too. Basically same tune with lyrics and harmonica added. I love canned heat and booker t and the mgs.

His harp techniques are very difficult to preform. I've heard lots of attempts but NO ONE has been able to do the deep staccato machine gun bends with precision timing like he did.

I had the good fortune to see this band live more than half a dozen times in the late sixties in LA. The could rock the hell out of any venue they performed in! I especially remember bringing down the house at the Shrine Hall with some of the hardest, edgiest blues rock you could possibly imagine!

This album cover brings back memories I rolled countless joints using that cover as a table o my lap . Almost got a contact buzz . This is still one of the most authentic blues bands ever . But when the blind owl died the heart of band was. Gone ....

What on earth kind of harmonica is that? What key? This sound is a good example of what harmonica playing technique? Mean--just mean. Dam those blues.

Break out an E harp and jam, there are still a few troublesome trills, His voice and harp makes this a classic.
