Review by DB Ferguson

Los Tekis, the Argentine folk band, have released their latest album, Hijos de la Tierra, which is a beautiful and authentic representation of Andean music. The album has a total of 12 tracks that are a mix of original compositions and traditional Andean songs. The band has done an excellent job of blending different musical styles and instruments to create a unique sound that is both traditional and modern.

The album starts with the upbeat and catchy "Carnavalito del Duende" that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The band's harmonies and use of traditional instruments such as the charango and quena are particularly noteworthy. The track "Pachamama" is a tribute to Mother Earth and is a beautiful and moving song that showcases the band's vocal abilities.

The album has a good mix of fast and slow-paced songs, with each track having a distinct sound and feel. "Luna Santiagueña" is a beautiful ballad that showcases the band's ability to create a haunting melody. The upbeat "El Humahuaqueño" is a traditional song that has been given a modern twist and is likely to get people dancing.

About Los Tekis

Los Tekis ("boys" in Quechua) is a folklore group from the Jujuy province of Argentina. It is formed by (vocals, quena and charango), Juanjo Pestoni (drums), (wind and backing vocals), Pipo Valdez (winds and charango), Walter Sader (guitars) and Pucho Ponce (bass). Even though they have been together for a long time, their appearance on the Festival de la Serenata de Cafayate (1991) is generally considered their debut as a group. Their repertoire consists of music styles from the northeast of Argentina and Bolivia, such the carnavalito and taquiraris, which they play on various traditional instruments.
